Globe iPhone

I think Globe Telecom is already preparing for the launch of the (rumored) iPhone 5 on September 12 2012. They are now having this promo to probably sell off their remaining units in anticipation of the newest product of Apple. According to yet another rumor: Globe will launch the iPhone 5 at the same time with the rest of the world. For now, we'll just have to wait and see.

Too Bad Employees

Starting September 1, BDO Cash Card withdrawals will be charged 2 pesos. They got it all already but apparently they still want more. WTF SM, SMH.

I. Am. Sorry. by Robert Blair Carabuena

Remember that infamous MMDA beating video?

Well here's his apology:
Now that his 15 minutes of fame is up, can the Filipino public forgive him or just forget about him like they usually do?

Breaking Bad

Season 5 Poster is looking pretty awesome.

All Hail The King

A teaser of sorts on how Walter White's role will finally change from a Chemistry teacher to a full-pledged Drug Lord.

I'm excited. This will surely be one heck of a final season.

Season 5 premieres July 15, 2012.

Pint-Sized Punch

Nathaniel's Buko Pandan Salad, one of the best damn desserts out there now has a pint-sized serving. Finally, a perfect excuse not to share and have it all to yourself! :)

iPad Comes to the Philippines

The not-so-new iPad finally launches tomorrow (May 29, 2012) in the Philippines. Those who want one should grab it before supplies last but for those who have the iPad 2 already I suggest sticking with it. No need to upgrade, in my opinion.

Days Without Incident: 0

Peace and order fail.

"It's more fun in the Philippines" parin ba talaga sa mga panahon ngayon?

Spot.ph's Top 10 Everything Food Lists

SPOT.ph just released its Top 10 Everything Food Lists in book form. I often frequent their website in search of some of the best dishes and desserts so I can personally try them out for myself. I use it as a guide for some of my food trips and late night cravings. The only problem that I have sometimes is that my internet connection is way too damn slow so it takes me a harder time to look at the website and browse through their Top 10 lists. And if ever you've been in the middle of that intense hunger-craving, you'd hate for that slow internet connection to hinder you from that oral satisfaction. This makes the launch of the book perfect in my opinion because you get a "hard copy" of all the Top 10 lists for almost any of your cravings.

Grab a copy now from your neighborhood bookstore and newsstand.

Around The Thai Corner

Soi Thai
Greenhills Theatre Mall

Tried out a new Thai restaurant at the Greenhills Theatre Mall. Soi replaced the previous tenant (Mann Hann) at the food court. We tried a couple of ubiquitous Thai viands like the Chicken Green Curry, Pad Thai, Tom Yum, and Bagoong Rice. All were surprisingly good but also surprisingly expensive. Food prices are kinda steep compared to others. I don't really get why restauranteurs often overprice Thai food but as long as it's as good as this, I don't really care.

LE JARDIN de Joël Robuchon

Chef of the Century Joël Robuchon's 3 Michelin Star restaurant is located at The Landmark in Central (Hong Kong).

 Vegetable Jelly with Celery Root
Not a fan of the taste and/or smell of celery so I didn't like the palate cleanser that much. The vegetable jelly had a good stock base though.

Sweet Potato Puree with Bacon Emulsion
I loved the smokiness of the bacon foam on top of the puree. The combination of the layer of foam with the puree was exquisite.

Collection of House Bread
Really filling if you try to finish everything.  The restaurant offers you a choice between salted and unsalted whipped butter.  The salted butter was blended with sea salt and you can taste the bits.  Amazing bread.

Scampi Ravioli with Foie Gras Sauce and Black Truffle
One of the best things I've ever put in my mouth.  A very sensual dish of fresh langoustine wrapped in a thin layer of ravioli pasta topped with an amazing sauce of foie. The delicate taste of the scampi was a perfect contrast to the robust metallic flavor of the foie.  The shavings of black truffle on top completed the dish and put everything all together. Do not step out of Robuchon without sampling this one.

Free-Range Quail with Foie Gras and Truffled Mashed Potatoes
Quail was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Perfectly cooked. The dish could have used a lot more foie in my opinion or just do without it completely. The potatoes were silky and smooth to the tongue. It melted like butter inside my mouth. One of best mashed potatoes I've ever had in my life.

Pan-Seared Sea Bass with Lemongrass Foam
The sea bass was a tad bit overcooked and I didn't like the fact that the subtle taste of the fish was tarnished by the strong lemongrass flavor. I guess I'm just used to finding lemongrass in soup and prefer my sea bass simply seared and topped with brown butter.

Desserts from the Trolley
They gave us some desserts to cap off the night and remind us of the amazing experience we just had. I'm not a big fan of macaron but everything else was great.

Our experience was definitely surreal.  The service was, as should be expected, excellent. The food amazing.  The only thing that could've made the moment even more perfect was if we would've been able to meet THE Joël Robuchon but sadly, we didn't have a chance to do that. But there's always a next time and I'm surely looking forward to that.

By the way, did I mention that the restroom doors open and closed automatically?!? Fucking cool!

Tim Ho Wan

The cheapest Michelin-starred restaurant in the world.

Chasiu Bao (BBQ Pork Buns)

Waited 3 hours for this. Definitely worth it to try but not to queue in line for that long. If they allow you to take it away, do so instead.  Their dimsum is just ordinary.  The BBQ Pork Buns are the only dish worth the Michelin star in my opinion.

It's More Fun In The Philippines?

On President Noynoy Aquino dating Grace Lee:

First there were Korean students, then K-pop. Now there might be a Korean first lady. It's more Korean in the Philippines.

The Return

Ha Yuan Signatures
Madison Square Granada
Granada Street, Quezon City

One of the best Maki-Mi in town can now be found in our neighborhood. Strategically located at Madison Square Granada, it now sheds off the cafeteria/turo-turo concept and concentrates on their signature dishes.

It's still as amazing as I remember it and brings back a lot of good memories of my forgotten youth.
