Men's Health 10K Miracle Run

March 29, 2009
Men's Health Miracle Run
UP Diliman

Participated in my first ever 10K run for the Tahanan Walang Hagdanan and finished around an hour and 23 minutes. Lousy time but not bad for a newbie I think. I guess I need a little more practice for this though. Well they said there were no winners and no loser anyway since all finishers will be donating Php200 each for the charity. I just received an email now that all the finishers raised over Php 240,000. The organizers lied when they said there were no winners because knowing I gave something back made me an instant winner.

Now I know why people are so addicted to this running thing... See you on the next run! :)

Craig David Live In Manila 2009

Craig David Live In Manila 2009
Araneta Coliseum

I learned a pretty valuable lesson today: Charge! Could have used that bit of information though before the batteries of my camera died on me even before the concert started. I had to settle with my crappy cellphone camera for some of the pictures and the videos.

The concert was awesome but he could have sang more songs... I mean, he mentioned "Manila" (kissing ass to the audience) more than the number of songs he sang. Good thing he was an amazing singer and performer. We definitely enjoyed this one! Thanks for the seats love. I was just kidding about the nose-bleed/die-of-decompression-sickness seats thing! Hehehe! :)

3 Stars & A Sun

March 13, 2009
3 Stars & A Sun
Aurora Boulevard, Quezon City

Braving the payday traffic, I decided to go get my FMCC gear. I've always wanted to purchase his stuff even before his passing and thought of finally acquiring one. We were shocked to see a really long line when we arrived at the 3 Stars & A Sun store at Broadway Centrum but instead of canceling the whole plan, we got a number and fell in line. The number I got was the number 477 so you can just imagine how long the line was all day just to get FMCC shirts/polos. The brand became much more of a valuable commodity because of his untimely death. You know, I never really had the patience of falling in line for something but this time it was different. I just thought of it as a simple offering of my genuine condolences to the Magalona family instead of a waste of time or a financial expense. The feeling that I had after that 2 and a half hour wait was extremely gratifying. Very awesome indeed.

One more thing, there are a lot (and I mean A LOT) of unlicensed FMCC shirts/polos out there. A lot of people taking advantage of tragedy for their own gain. I usually don't care about buying fakes and stuff but please not this, and not now while everything is still so fresh. Have some heart people.

Don't Know What You've Got Until It's Gone

You don't know what you've got until it's gone...
- Anonymous

We used to have a store called Gadgetgeeks in Greenhills that sold iPod and iPod accessories. I remember fondly how we often see Francis M walking around the mall. He would also sometimes look over our tiny kiosk and later would buy a U2 iPod from us:

One day, I received a call from our sales clerk and she told me that she was putting Francis M on the line since he was planning to buy an iPod from us and was personally asking for a discount. We talked for a couple of minutes to get the details of the order and I naturally gave him the discount. He was Francis M after all. Before putting the phone down, I asked to talk to my sales personnel and told her to give the discount but ask to have him sign an autograph on one of our Gadgetgeek shirts. And sign, he did.

I honestly planned to frame it. Planned.

I threw it to the backseat of my car and forgot about it...

In the light of his untimely passing, I suddenly remembered about the shirt. I'm definitely having it framed now! Sad how we always seem to take things (or people) for granted, only to realize how valuable they are in the end. You would think that after so much evolution and natural selection, human nature would be less erroneous. Human nature truly evolved the least.

1B Revisited

March 5, 2009
Apartment 1B
Salcedo Village, Makati City

A dinner with my UP Barkada led me to revisit Apartment 1B. The food of which I really enjoyed tremendously the last time I was there. I was extremely excited since it was only my second time and I've always wanted to sample their other specialties:

Sea Scallops. Wasn't able to taste this but it looks good huh? Will taste it on our 3rd visit, I promise.

French Onion Soup. Part of the menu equals a must-try for this dish. Good thing I had this new mission because 1B's onion soup was simply amazing. It was different. Maybe because of the sharp flavor of the Gruyere Cheese that added a bit of a punch to the intense beef broth essense. Probably one of the best I've tasted.

Spaghetti Carbonara. It has been definitely a long time since I've had carbonara. The long abstinence was absolutely worth it. I used to get fed up with carbonara and how it's simplicity was far too irritating. One could easily make one and it was so simple even to the taste. 1B's version is either as different as I think or it's because I haven't had it for a long time. I don't know. Maybe both. Or maybe it was just that good.

Poached Salmon. Mitch (one of my friends) told us she always ordered this dish whenever she would dine at 1B. She's been quite experienced when it comes to food and beverage so I trusted her word. Besides the fact, the salmon was indeed tempting. It was a winner. The salmon and the tomato-hollandaise sauce complemented each other perfectly. The vegetable sidings were perfectly seasoned and cooked just right. My only complain though was the salmon was a bit overcooked and a bit too flaky. In general though, the salmon dish was blended perfectly through the different flavors involved. The milky-tartness of the sauce was the key in this case and if only the salmon was cooked correctly, this dish would be perfect.

Blogging on a revisited restaurant is a first for me and in doing so, I've realized the capability of 1B to produce good dishes in two separate occasions now. I do look forward for the next.

RIP: Francis Magalona (1964-2009)

Literally a whole generation mourns...
There goes one of the coolest people there ever will be.
