In Search Of Everybody

August 26-27, 2007

The gang decided to have an impromptu roadtrip during the long weekend. We were looking for Everybody's Cafe, a restaurant which serves exotic food like crickets, frogs, and deer. After our awesome win during our basketball game, we decided to go on a roadtrip since it was a long weekend and we all didn't have work on Monday. We decided either we go south to Tagaytay or north to Pampanga and Subic, and since there were construction along the SLEX, we went to the north side. Matthew picked up the Binondo Badminton Squad (Peachy, Nikki, Michelle, Tin, and Sher). I was with Jen and we picked up Ven, War, and Din. We all met up at Shell SLEX and it was raining so hard!!! We tried to let the rain die down so we can continue our roadtrip.

First in our agenda was to find Everybody's Cafe. Since we couldn't find it, we decided to push towards Subic cause Sher already booked us lodging there. We opted to search for Everybody's on the way back. The roadtrip was great since we were all laughing throughout the whole ride. Thanks Jen for the entertainment! Hahaha! We stayed at Legenda Suites in Subic. Ate pizza at Aresi. Ate Max's chicken and Crispy Pata as "pulutan" and Drank vodka/sprite in our room.

Next day, we had breakfast at Extremely Espresso. Thanks to Jen for leading us to this awesome breakfast place. We had a great breakfast! After that, we went looking for Zoobic but the whole tour would take 2 hours so we didn't push through it anymore! What a waste!!! Next time, next time!

After checking out, we went back to Pampanga to eat at The Original Razon's, we just ate "merienda" here since our plan was to eat at Everybody's for dinner. The Binondo Badminton Squad went ahead to Manila so we decided to continue looking on our own. We located Everybody's and we were so excited in trying the exotic food... We only had one problem: We were still so full from our "merienda" at Razon's! :( We all decided to at least try the food via ordering half-orders so we can at least taste everything.

The crickets were surprisingly good. The stuffed frog was a little tough and overcooked but nice still. The best thing for me was the Kapampangan Dinuguan. I love dinuguan! :) Bloated and full, we went back to Manila satisfied and glad that our trip was safe and for, at the last minute, we accomplished our goal!

I love roadtrips! We should do this everyweek! Or at least every long weekend! The company was great! Food was great! And I think in every roadtrip, good food plus great friends is always a good equation for fun.

Chef Oliboy

Due to the lack of tv series to watch (well, except from Entourage), I started looking around for cancelled shows. I'm thinking that since some of the current tv shows are on a hiatus, I'd watch cancelled tv series and get over at least a season or two to make up the long break. The current shows that I watch come back around end of September so it's perfect timing.

I was watching ETC one time and came across Kitchen Confidential during one of its promos. I've heard about this before from my sister Steph (Chef Steph) and wanted to download it but I was, like I said, busy with current shows that I didn't have time to download this one... I'm watching it right now (well, episode 1 and 2 since the series download hasn't finished yet) and I can say that it is really funny... It's based on Anthony Bourdain's book Kitchen Confidential and is about the crazy life of chefs in and out of the kitchen. Kitchen Confidential caters to a niche audience and shows the ins and outs of the kitchen. If you've tried working in a kitchen, you'll really love this series. It brings back all the times I've been in the Edsa-Shangrila kitchen and when I studied at AICA's kitchen under Chef Pete Ayson and Chef Rob Pengson (shameless plug: Chef Rob has a show now at QTV entitled Chef To Go. Watch it!) and I MISS IT! I love being in the kitchen! I miss the smell. I miss the pressure that comes with it! I hope our new kitchen at home would be much better so I can fullfill my frustration as a chef. It won't be until next year that I take a crash course again in a culinary school (I wanna take a crash course once a year to keep me up with actual restaurant-style kitchen movement so I won't be rusty) so I hope I can practice my skills at home as much.

What can I say, I'm a frustrated chef and I salute those who are chefs or are in the restaurant business... more power to you guys. If only I could do what I love as a profession... sigh...

Miller Doing A Jordan?

Celtics call Miller, who is considering return to NBA
By J.A. Adande

Reggie Miller says he is contemplating a return to the NBA, this time with the Boston Celtics.

Miller, who turns 42 on Aug. 24, played his entire 18-year career with the Indiana Pacers before retiring in 2005. Since his playing days ended he has worked as a television analyst for TNT."I'm always flattered when my name is mentioned as someone who can still help an NBA team win a championship," Miller said Wednesday in a statement relayed to The Associated Press by the TNT network. "I've had li mited discussions with Celtics management about their roster and a potential role for me. At this time, I'm enjoying my role as an analyst with TNT."

Miller was all set to continue that job when Celtics general manager Danny Ainge and coach Doc Rivers asked him to think about joining their revamped team in a reserve role, playing about 15 minutes per game.
"[I have] contacted Reggie and he is contemplating a comeback with us," Ainge told The Associated Press through a team spokesman.

Miller said he is calling friends and peers, seeking their advice and listening to their feedback before he makes his decision. He still plays recreationally, but must determine if he wants to go through the physical and mental grind of an 82-game season. He also wonders how his body would respond to the intensive training it would take to get him back to NBA shape.
The lure of playing in Boston is simple: with Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen added to Paul Pierce, the Celtics feel they have a shot at an NBA championship. Like those three players, the only thing missing from Miller's list of accomplishments is a championship ring. Miller, a five-time NBA All-Star, is seventh on the all-time list of games played with 1,323. He is 13th in scoring (25,279) and holds the NBA record for the most made 3-pointers in NBA history with 2,560. Since the Celtics' trades that brought in Allen and Garnett, the team has been filling out its roster with less heralded players, including guard Eddie House and center Scot Pollard.

My thoughts:

I'm a big Pacer/Reggie Miller fan and as much as I would love to see my idol on the floor again, I don't think this is a good idea for the already 42 year-old veteran. He's been regarded as one of the best pure shooters in his time and not until the end of his career, this has been proven otherwise. So my question is, why tarnish a stellar career? I think this decision all boils down to legacy or gold... would you exchange your legacy as one of the best just to get one of those rings? Damn, will all the money in the world, he can have somebody make him one! Y eah I know! I know! It's different but what is the assurance he'll actually get one? Yeah the Celtics, now with the addition of Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen is now the team to beat but that doesn't assure a championship. Look at Kobe-Shaq Lakers VS Detroit, Dirk VS Golden State, Shaq and Wade's 2007 Heat... Getting a championship is not by how strong your team is but by how you unite as a team. It's not about the players, it's about the team. So I think Reggie should stay retired and not do another Jordan move. Less be called a poor-man's Jordan yet again.

Thanks Ainee for this link! You upload a real-life photo and it generates a Simpsons character based on your own picture! It's cool and better than the one on the official website!

Two Firsts In One Tagaytay

August 4-5, 2007
Richmore/Bawai's, Tagaytay City

They say there's always a first time for everything and I guess everyday, we all come across things we experience only for the first time and eventually never forget it. Our getaway to Tagaytay was one of these and I was surprised by the way I felt afterwards...

Tagaytay was a usual place we go to every now and then to chill. Chinang asked all the people close to him (hint hint hint Arlyn!) to go to Tagaytay over the weekend to have some karaoke and eat at Bawai's (a Vietnamese restaurant) unknown to Arlyn the events to come. After a night of some singing and some booze, we ate breakfast on the 5th at Pancake house because everybody was soooo hungry. We chilled back at our place and waited for lunchtime.

Lunchtime, Chinang had reserved us a big table at Bawai's had a heavenly lunch. The food was great and a cool breeze was blowing throughout the place. It was perfect indeed. And then it happened, Chinang had a speech and all and knelt down on one knee to ask Lyn to be her wife. Although I knew what was about to happen, I was moved by the whole event. This was my first time to experience an actual proposal. Call me sentimental and all but I was really touched. You see, I forgot how love felt. Shut it out when my heart got broken. But with this experience, this is the first time I've ever felt hope... Our hearts can be broken and we can forget about love but the fact still remains, somehow love will find a way back into our hearts. Making us realize that all the heartache and the pain we felt in the past was all worth it... just having a moment like this makes it all worth it...

Congrats to one of my dearest kabarkadas Chinang and Lyn. Thank you for making me believe again...
